GEICO sponsored a free evening of fun at The National Children’s  Museum at the National Harbor, 151 St. George Boulevard National Harbor, MD 20745 (301) 392-2400. I was so excited to see this because I have been waiting to take C.A.B. to it, but because of the reviews I hesitated. I was pleasantly surprised! C.A.B. had a ball and he did not want to leave. He was so impressed; the next day he asked if we could go back and I said sure especially since GEICO will be sponsoring a free evening every month for the next couple of months. The next one will be this Friday; March 21st from 5 – 7 pm; no reservation needed first come first serve.  Please check the happenings page every month to find out when the next one will be.

The museum is not huge, but packed with tons of activities to keep the little ones entertained. When you walk in; it is an open area full of things to do. There is a pulley system the kids get to load  a basket with various items, wheels, boxes, etc. and then turn the wheel to hoist or lower items in the basket. There is a grocery store  and cash register, a vintage Cab, and C.A.B.’s favorite area a  play fire truck equipped with sirens, fireman uniforms, and a 911  emergency button to push with a simulated fire. In the back they have divided the area into three sections with a fully stocked play kitchen, arts and craft create table, and dress up section complete with different clothes to try on.

They even had two live shows Dinosaurs and Movers and Shakers. They also had four additional rooms open the night we went where children could sculpt, search for shark teeth and take them home after identifying them, and take pictures with animal cut outs. A room set aside for children under three to create as well as a free play room for them separate from the bigger kids where they could play and explore.  Then to end the night Cookie Monster came out to dance with the children; what a way to end the evening.
