The Adventures Of C.A.B. traveled to Oxon Hill Farm, 6411 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD, 301-839-1176.  I have heard so many great reviews about the farm which is located just 10 minutes outside of DC and even better is that fact that it’s free.  Since  I listed it as a suggestion of things to do while on Spring Break and it was over 70 degrees on Sunday we headed out and sang a remixed version of Old McDonald Had a Farm.  It is extremely easy to get to Exit 3 off of 495. Oxon Hill Farm is huge; children will  love to explore and run around. The Farm posts a schedule of activities and activity sheets to prepare you for what you will be able to do and see at the farm.  We even saw a father and  daughter roll down a grassy hill having a ball of fun.  It was so cute to watch but I wasn’t trying it. Lol!!!

Tractor and Barn

There are several picnic tables located next to the parking lot; I suggest you pack a lunch and make a day of it.  As soon as we passed the picnic area and began to walk on a gravel road; there were cows  grazing away. C.A.B. was so excited he said, “mommy look at the cows, Moo”!  A tractor with hay ready to take visitors on a hayride was next to where the cows were grazing. They even have a little sitting area where you can sit and  wait for the hay ride to begin. There is a visitor center with a reading room, a museum that houses old farm equipment that you can walk through, and a barn to explore. Then a little to the left were pigs, turkey, horses, and a donkey. The pigs were waddling in mud and eating out the troth not paying us a lick of attention as the children were excited oinking around. The horses were so friendly; they allowed the father and daughter that rolled down the hill to feed them. The horses were eating right out of their hands.  Once again we just watched.  The turkey had a few unexpected guest two deer and it chased them away. I didn’t know turkeys were so spirited.  Last, but not least the chicken coup! There was a chicken outside the chicken coup walking around greeting everyone.

There are always walking trails to explore but after checking out the animals and museum we were all tuckered out and ready for a nap.  C.A.B. fell asleep on the way home.  This is a perfect way to bring in Spring and become one with nature.  There is nothing like enjoying the freedom of the outdoors.
