The Adventures of C.A.B. takes a boat ride down the Anacostia River on a pontoon boat at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. Bladensburg Waterfront Park is a cute little park located on the Anacostia River on Annapolis Road on the other side of Kenilworth Ave at 4821 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg, MD 20710. We have never been to this park or heard of it, but after today’s visit we will definitely be frequent visitors. The park has hiking trails by the water, a pontoon boat ride, and a wonderful bridge that C.A.B. couldn’t get enough of because of the view it gives of the CSX trains that pass it. They have a covered picnic area and gazebos to eat or to just enjoy the day by the water or playground. There is also a caboose for children to play in and explore. They have canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats that can be rented and they even have fishing classes for children. I can’t wait for the next class so C.A.B. can attend.
The pontoon boat ride is a free boat ride down the Anacostia to the Arboretum and back while a tour guide explains the environmental and rich history of the area. We picked a gorgeous day to go. Although it is July the weather was in the low 80s with a nice breeze. The boat ride leaves at noon and we got there at 11:50 and had no problem getting on. There is no preregistration you sign upon arrival arrive. Everyone has to put on life vest and then you are off to board the boat. The ride is about 45 minutes and very relaxing. C.A.B. enjoyed the wildlife of the Anacostia. We saw several turtles, birds, and a deer. Hikers on the trail waved as we passed by. I was surprised that the park was as empty as it was for such a nice day. After the boat ride C.A.B. had the playground all to himself.
